The Prime Minister of the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), Judith Suminwa, issued a solemn statement on her X account on Friday, December 12, following the Rwandan aggression that recently led to the capture of the city of Uvira in the country's east.
In her emotionally charged declaration, Ms. Suminwa expressed her solidarity with populations affected by the conflict, particularly families displaced and children separated from their homes. "In these dark hours when our nation is attacked by the intensification of combat led by Rwanda, in violation of the Washington agreements, my heart turns toward our wounded populations of the East," she stated.
The Prime Minister also issued an urgent appeal for the protection of civilians and recalled the government's commitment to ensuring their security. "The Government is determined to assist them, to guarantee their security and to bring about genuine and lasting peace across the entire national territory," she emphasized.
Suminwa paid tribute to the Armed Forces of the DRC (FARDC) and to Wazalendo patriots, praising their courage and determination in the face of aggression. She described these soldiers as "the shield of our sovereignty" who defend the land, dignity and future of the country.
In a call for national unity, the Prime Minister concluded: "Today more than ever, we must remain united, in solidarity and confident. Because despite the pain, despite the trials, peace will return, and our people will rise again."
The situation in the eastern DRC remains tense, and the international community is closely monitoring the evolution of the conflict, marked by repeated clashes between Congolese forces and Rwandan militias. The capture of Uvira heightens concerns about the safety of civilian populations and the stability of the region.
